Wonderfully Awesome Christmas MUMC

Hi all,

The snow is certainly beautiful – could do without the cold cold weather however. Here’s hoping the weather cooperates tomorrow for church services! It’s going to be 50 tomorrow afternoon they say. Unreal.

The Wonderfully Awesome Christmas MUMC Concert is at 7 p.m. tomorrow. Please please don’t miss it as it will be, did I say wonderful and awesome?? On Wednesday, Dec. 21, the shortest night of the year is the Blue Christmas service at 7 for those who have difficulty getting through this holiday for whatever reason whether it be loss of a loved one, or a job or, many different things; Christmas is not joyfilled and parties for many. Christmas eve services are 5, 7 and 11 so there are many opportunities over the next week to worship and thank God for this wonderful gift of the Christ child.

Be safe if you need to go outside.
Blessings. Casey

Live Nativity

I just can’t even wrap my head around the fact that Christmas is in just two weeks!  Are you ready?  I’m not asking if you have all your shopping done or Christmas cards addressed, but if YOU are ready for the Christ child to enter your life once again.  There is a difference. I hope Advent is playing out in your heart in a joyous and meaningful way.

Today is the LIVE NATIVITY from 4 to 5:30.  This event is a memory maker.  See the animals, pat the calf, join in the carols and praise the new born baby!  We do need some help.  PLEASE, if you’re able and can help lift the stable out onto the grass come by the church at 3 p.m. We have a few folks already but it’s heavy and need a few more.  Many hands make light work!!!!  And if you’ve always wanted to be an angel or a magi you can pick out your costume (although that’s not necessary so don’t stay away because of the possibility of being drafted).  Thank you!!

And I know you must have December 18 at 7 on your calendar for the glorious Christmas Concert.  I LOVE that.  AND

December 21, the shortest night of the year is the Blue Christmas service at 7 p.m. for those who have trouble getting through the holidays.  This service truly reminds us of the strength this babe can give us without the secular hoopla of the season getting in the way.  We celebrate the returning light as the day’s just get longer from there

May the Bethlehem child bring you joy.  See you tomorrow.

Live Nativity

WOW! You should be here, really. The Christmas Craft Fair is open until 1:00. Don’t miss out if you can possibly make it. Where did all the Christmas delights and crafts and decorations come from? And the Café! I’ve never been to a Christmas Fair with such good food offered for both breakfast and lunch. Don’t miss out!

And next week is the Live Nativity on Saturday from 4-5:30. Carols. goodies, and a great time of fellowship and fun. To top it all off, one of the animals, the calf, loves people company!

And then the following week, Sunday, Dec. 18 at 7 is the incredible Christmas Concert! Last year’s was awesome so there is no doubt it will be thee place to go to get your Christmas music fix for this season.

See you at them all! What a wonderful time of celebrations to usher in the Christ child. And see you at church tomorrow as we continue our journey with Scrooge as he makes his way to Christmas past.

Blessings and peace

Gratefulness to God

Would you believe Thanksgiving is next week and Advent starts the following Sunday?  It seems like the holidays always sneak up on us.
This Sunday will celebrate our gratefulness to God by remembering the importance of MUMC in the lives of so many for the work God has given the church to do.  We will be given the opportunity to decide what we can offer to God in gifts and love.  We will also be celebrating a new church member at second service!  Please welcome Amanda when next you see her.
The Youth Group will NOT be working at the Wilton Community Supper since it is not happening any more, but the kids (and everyone else!) are encouraged to volunteer at the SHARE Community Supper on Tuesday, Nov. 29 from 4:30-7:30, or for any amount of time they want to join in.  See the sign up sheet at church on Sunday or call the church office for more information.
See you Sunday!

MUMC’s Annual Church Conference

Good morning!  What wonderfully crisp weather we’ve been having.  God is so good.  My daughter Crista has been visiting from Baltimore for a couple days for her business, so her presence has had me outside more for which I am grateful.

A couple of reminders this morning.  Next Wednesday is MUMC’s annual Church Conference which our District Superintendent, Jim McPhee will be facilitating at 7 p.m.  I encourage you to attend as we discuss the life of the church moving forward and of course tend to a few business items as we are gathered.

And we are getting closer to Thanksgiving, a time we set aside to thank God for all we are grateful for in our lives. Sometimes it’s hard to see past anxieties or difficulties but if we truly are honest with ourselves, I’m betting you’ll find that the joys far outnumber the adversities.  As some wise person has said, if we didn’t have adversities we would not appreciate the blessings.  In this season the church as well appreciates its blessings.  Tomorrow we again hear testimonies from a MUMC member in each service and why they feel grateful to have this church in their lives. In this Grow with God sequence we continue the theme as we get nearer to Grow One Stewardship Sunday gathering to give thanks for all God has given and done for us, assuring the strength and continuation of God’s work in Milford.  I am so grateful to God and the communities of love and and relationships God has blessed me with. How about you?

See you tomorrow.

Communion Sunday

A reminder that folks ARE CHRISTMAS crafting this morning at 10.  Please use the the side door as there is a service going on in the sanctuary at the same time

Congrats to Joe and Shannon and all the people who made West Side Story a wonderful event last night!  If you haven’t planned to attend, change your mind!  It was awesome.  I was singing along the whole time.

Also a reminder to turn your clocks back tonight.  If you forget, that’s ok since that would get you to church an hour early so you still wouldn’t miss anything.  It’s communion Sunday and we’ll be having a special moment during that ritual offered by 2 of our children.  You certainly won’t want to miss that.

Have a wonderful Saturday.

Celebrate the Saints of Our Lives

Hello all,

You ready for the trick or treaters on Monday?  About 250 roam the parsonage neighborhood on Halloween.  Yikes! Thanks to Heather and Callie (and Liz and Gerrie who helped pack them) I’ll have company giving out bags of goodies that will just happen to have information about what MUMC offers kids.  It should be fun.  Guess I won’t stick to my tried and true clown costume considering all the clown fuss in the media this past year.  The costume is a long time family tradition as my Mom dressed as a clown following us kids around when we went trick or treating in years past.  That said, as time moves forward, traditions change, and life changes, whether we are ready or not.  Our God through it all remains steadfast.  Maybe I’ll be a cat.

Tomorrow in services we celebrate the saints of our lives.  On the church calendar that shows up the following Sunday, November 7 since it is normally celebrated on the nearest Sunday to the holiday.  The worship team and I decided it makes more sense to celebrate these wonderful people on the day closest to the official date rather than a week later.  So join in as we worship God with thanks for the people and relationships we’ve been fortunate to have experienced over the years.

See you in church!

Crafting for the Christmas Fair

Good afternoon!

I hope this finds you well and excited about God being in your life.  Looking for something to do?  Tomorrow morning, and Saturdays coming up bring yourself to church from 10-1 crafting for the Christmas Fair.  Can you believe that Advent, when we usher in Christmas, is just a month or so away?  Spend creative time with great folks!  Don’t know how to craft?  There is something to do at every level of skill (trust me, I’ve done it!).

I hear often from those in the church how it would be nice for other folks to know about MUMC.  One way is to be more visible in Milford.  Join Susan and myself and other folks at the Red Ribbon drug prevention week sponsored by CAST at the event next Saturday, October 29 for an hour or three or anywhere in between to play Halloween games with community children.  Please let us know your availability.

Want to help out with Halloween?  I will be hosting Halloween at the parsonage this year giving out bags of goodies to neighborhood kids, an estimated 250 of them!  Each bag will have candy, a prize, and a bookmark with MUMC details on it.  Let us know about that as well if you want to help put these together.

If you weren’t at worship last Sunday, you missed a wonderful Laity morning with Steve Rafter at the helm.  He reminded us about how important it is to be involved in church events not just to help others but for us to grow spiritually as well, growing community and faith.  The above are just a few ways to do that.

Have an awesome weekend.  See you in church!

Rally Day

Sunday is Rally Day!!!  The Chancel Choir begins for the year and Sunday School for the kids resumes between services (9:30-10:15).  Invite your neighbors!  Please remember that second service continues to begin at 10:30 throughout the year.   After second service at around 12:15 the Bible Study on Grace (focusing on the Gospel according to John) starts up.  I hope you have that on your calendar!

Tomorrow morning bring all that you no longer want that is gathering dust at your house to the YARD SALE drop off, 9-11 a.m. both tomorrow and the following Saturday.  Remember, one person’s junk is another person’s treasure!

See you soon!  Have a blessed day.

Annual Charge Conference

Hello all,

What a wonderful, awesome Hopefest weekend it was.  The music was incredible!  Of course I’m partial to MUMC’s praise team but Mark Schultz and the other musicians were inspiring as well.  Thanks to all who worked so hard to make it happen.

Two dates for you to put on your calendars.  The Annual Charge Conference has been scheduled, facilitated by the District Superintendent, Jim McPhee for Wednesday, November 16 at 7 p.m.  The Staff Parish team will meet with him at 6 p.m.  The Charge Conference will include worship and conversation about where the church is and where it is going.

The second date is Monday evening, October 3 at 7 p.m. Would you like to carpool to Salisbury, Massachusetts, leaving early enough to get a seafood dinner since we’ll be near the shore?  It is an evening with the Bishop on the District so if you did not have the opportunity to talk with him or ask him about United Methodist concerns, this is the place to be.  Please let me know if you’d like to join in.

I hope you have a marvelous weekend.  See you Sunday.

Grace and peace,

Casey
