Tonight the Worship Team is hosting Family Movie night beginning at 6:30.  I get to supply the popcorn to go along with the lemonade!  I hope to see you there.

During church tomorrow we will be talking about the third most important holiday in the Christian year.  Tomorrow is Pentecost, 50 days after Easter and 10 days after the Ascension of Jesus, marking the day the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles. Pentecost is also known as “the birthday of the Church” fulfilling Jesus’ promise to send the “Counselor” or “Advocate” once he left the earth.   Acts 2:41 records that after Peter spoke to the crowd that day, some 3,000 people were baptized.

Jewish tradition also celebrates Pentecost, but not for the same reason as the Christians celebration.  The celebration of our Jewish brothers and sisters is to observe God giving the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai, 50 days after the Exodus and 50 days after Passover.

Pentecost is often represented with the color red, symbolizing the fire of the Holy Spirit. Let’s see how many of us will be wearing red for worship!  See you there.
